Especially if you choose to not nest near or in the "Big City." However, Miss Piggy's little "snookums," Kermit, was a bit off on his theory of green-living. Being green is getting easier everyday - even more so for us in the Valley, because of a place called Just Act Natural. If you have met Ol' Man Groucher here, you know I'm as big of an environmentalist as the next guy ... unless the next guy is that barefooted hippie from the Discovery Channel's Dual Survival. He would beat me, hands-down. Last year I mentioned that I was surprised how quickly global warming was taking effect ... my wife didn't have the heart to tell me it was just springtime. Thanks, Hun. The premise behind Just Act Natural is to offer all green, eco-friendly products under one roof. The store sells a variety of green goods or "departments" from organic clothing, kitchenware, natural body care, eco-friendly cleaners and laundry soaps, recycled cards and stationery, stainless steel water bottles, dental care, baby items, cosmetics, towels, gifts and more. My wife and kids are big fans of this place - it took me awhile to warm up to the place. Why? Not one creative bone in my body. Yeah, seriously. I had it removed in college ... wait ... maybe that was my appendix ... I get the two confused. Anyway, if you had been following the Groucher for awhile, you would know that I took my kids into The Fire last year for Christmas to make the wife something special. Man, I left that place a mosaic tiling fool! I got home and was mosaic tiling everything I could get my hands on - kitchen back splash, my car dashboard, the dog, anything! I've been back twice since. So let's say you have never been to The Fire. How does this place work:When you walk into The Fire, you’ll be surrounded by many options – and some great, inspiring samples of what you could create ... none of my work is on display. Don’t feel intimidated. All of their staff members are awesome! You can choose from three types of projects: pottery painting, mosaic, and glass fusing.Pottery paintingChoose from a wide variety of pottery items, from sushi plates and serving platters to decorative items and picture frames. They'll help you gather a palette of paints from their HUGE selection. Then, they’ll fire your pottery, and you can pick it up about seven days later.MosaicMosaic is much easier than you think. Trust me. You simply choose one of the item in their shop to mosaic and glue small pieces of glass onto it. They have a nifty variety of colors available, as well as embellishments. Then, you can choose to take a free grout package home to finish it yourself, stop back in a day or so to finish your project, or ask them to grout it for you!Glass fusingGlass-fused items are outragous! If you make one for a gift, people are gonna think you spent a fortune at Pottery Barrel or Crate and Barn. You start with a flat piece of glass and then glue additional pieces of glass on top. You can choose colors and shapes, from thin lines to large squares or circles. When you’re done, they’ll fuse the pieces together. They even offer photo fusing, which incorporates photographs into your artwork. I have some glossy 8x10s of myself if you need a photo. The DetailsNot valid with other offersGrouchers hold no cash value or creditLimit 2 Groucher purchaseExpires 10/31/2010

8/27/2010 - Fox Cities, WI: $75 buys a $150 Groucher towards "The Ultimate Detail" package for your vehicle at The Aerts of Detailing

OK - this deal just become outrageous! Great Mexican restaurants have great salsa - it's not rocket science, people!!!So, who has good salsa? Señor Tequila's on College Ave in Appleton! Why? Fresh, made to order salsa and guacamole - BAM! None of this "out of a jar" crud, these tomatoes, onions, garlic, jalapeno, peppers, and cilantro were probably enjoying life fully intact before you ordered the salsa. Who else does that? Nobody in the Fox Valley, that's who. I think he hits the nail on the head ... plus I won't have to check for typpos ... crud, their's one. Notice the gourmet burger selection! 15 to choose from! What it is: It's a modern, chic downtown eatery that allows diners to enjoy the experience on their own terms. The wings and burgers crowd has a place. Those looking for a slower evening of cocktails and more intricate entrees also will find themselves at home.Approach and take note of Venue's signature glass garage door wall, which creates an open-air experience on warm, summer days. Inside, cream leather seating surrounds the tables. White draperies billow upon the walls. Red tablecloths stand out in contrast. A floor-to-ceiling, stainless steel wall fountain serves as a transition from the al fresco section of the restaurant to the more dimly lit bar and rear dining area. Take a seat and enjoy one of Venue's specialty, made-from-scratch margaritas, sangrias or mojitos. Venue, which opened in June in the storefront formerly occupied by Tapas, has taken cues from its customers, owner Alejandro Lopez said. Its latest menu is just days old. While the plan was to set forth with simpler selections, the unique atmosphere has brought in many looking for finer dining, Lopez said. They decided to oblige.Lopez alongside manager Miguel Hulke since devised a menu that can meet a diverse range of tastes from those coming in for a business lunch or a quick dinner to the couple out for a classy night on the town. "I don't think there's anywhere that has the diversity we have here," Lopez said. On the menu: Let your taste be the guide or invite the wait staff to help draw you to the right entree for the evening. Venue's latest menu incorporates tapas, which were the theme and inspiration for the restaurant's prior incarnation. Latin cuisine also found a place on the menu, filling the gap for those craving Casa Blanca. The neighboring restaurant recently went on a summer hiatus. Its burger and sandwich menu, which ranges in price from about $9 to $12, incorporates its customer favorites. Hulke said the chicken pesto sandwich is among Venue's best sellers. For those planning on a more robust dining experience, Hulke recommends the Azado Gaucho. At $27, it's filet mignon topped with chimichurri sauce. The tapas menu begins at $6. It's a Mediterranean concept where diners order multiple, smaller-sized dishes meant to be shared. Hulke recommends the avocado and shrimp ceviche. Pasta and seafood dishes are also available.Hours: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. dailyReservations: Accepted Dress: CasualView the menuThe DetailsLimit one Groucher per table. 2 Groucher max purchaseNot valid with other offers or specials (This means happy hour)Gratuity not included (So let your server know how awesome they are) Groucher holds no cash value or creditExpires 10/1/2010

8/13/2010 - Fox Cities, WI: $5 Buys a $15 Groucher for The Queen Bee in Downtown Appleton

Did anyone else have a momentary heart attack last week? It's Wisconsin - you can't deny it's coming!I don't know if you know this, but Ol' Man Groucher, here, is a big fan of the outdoors. Big hiker! I had to stop, though - had a pretty traumatic experience ... My old pal Milo and I were out hiking when we came upon an old, abandoned mine shaft. Curious about its depth we threw in a pebble and waited for the sound of it striking the bottom, but we heard nothing. Milo went and got a bigger rock, threw it in and waited. Still nothing. We searched the area for something larger and came upon a railroad tie. With great difficulty, Milo and I carried it to the opening and threw it in. While waiting for it to hit bottom, a St. Bernard suddenly darted between us and jumped into the hole! We were still standing there with astonished looks upon our faces from the actions of the St. Bernard when a man walked up to us. He asked us if we had seen a St. Bernard anywhere in the area and of course we said that one had just jumped into the mine shaft in front of us! The man replied, "Oh no. That couldn't be my St. Bernard, mine was tied to a railroad tie."Buy today's Groucher to the Outdoor Outlet and create your own outdoor adventure. "What the heck is the Pasty Koop?" Well, it's actually one of the best kept secrets in Appleton. If you have dined here, you most likely aren't keeping it a secret, but have recommended it to your friends multiple times! So, OK, they serve pasties ... now tell me what a pasty is! A pasty (pronounced /ˈpæsti/ (the 'a' pronounced as in 'cat' or 'battle ax'), is a filled pastry case. It differs from a pie as it is made by placing the filling on a flat pastry shape, usually a circle, and folding it to wrap the filling, crimping the edge to form a seal. The result is a raised semicircular package. The traditional Cornish pasty is filled with beef, sliced potato, swede (also known as a Swedish turnip) and onion, and baked. This is Yooper food that helped build America! I'm not going to forget to tell you about the breakfast pasties! There is nothing like starting your day with a egg and bacon filled pasty. But that's not the only stuffin' options they have. You gotta check this place out! You're not gonna find food like this at your local chain restaurant. It's a small "Mom & Pop" shop that really knocks it outta the ballpark. Being true Yoopers, Kay and William, stick with Yooper vendors. I have one MAJOR suggestion for anyone who takes advantage of this Groucher. Get a bottle of the Mama Selita's Jalapeño Ketchup, this is a condiment must!
