Groucher In the News

Press Release, August 8th, 2010
Appleton, Wis – Any day of the week, Mark DesJardin can be found beating feet on sidewalks, darting in and out of local businesses throughout the Fox Valley. A salesman by nature, he’s out pitching the socially-driven marketing services of his business, Groucher.com. As he sees it, though, he and his partners at Groucher.com are building local communities and strengthening local economies by working with local businesses to offer consumers huge discounts and savings.

Each deal Mark makes for Groucher offers customers anywhere from 25% to 90% savings on a product or service provided by local businesses. The daily special deals are featured on Groucher.com and the site promotes each business for 24 hours while the sale is on.

“It’s important to me to spur on the local economy. If we can get customers to spend their money at locally owned businesses, a lot more of it circulates in our local economy than if they spend it a chain store,” explained DesJardin. Groucher.com also shows its dedication to local communities and economies by committing a significant portion of their profits to charities and civic organizations in each city that Grouchers are offered. So, for example, if a customer buys a Groucher for a meal in Austin, Texas, a portion of that purchase goes to feeding the less fortunate in that city.

The daily deals give vendors money up front and help bring new customers through their doors. For vendors, Groucher.com enables them to promote themselves directly to local customers without having to spend money up front. Customers who buy the deals receive a special voucher in their inbox that they print out and redeem in person at the store. “Really, it’s a win-win for everyone involved,” says Desjardin. “When people buy local, everybody wins; we’re building up our community and growing our economy, and that’s what this is all about.”
